  • DROP DEAD COMEDY is run by owners April Keough and Tony Walker. They've been involved with dinner theatre since the early 90s, and founded DROP DEAD COMEDY in 2002. Audiences have been "laughing til they drop" ever since! We are confident we have the most hilarious shows and performers around!
  • Tony is a director and writer for Drop Dead Comedy (the balding one), and is a performer in our shows as well. His traditional theatre credits include playing the Phantom in a non musical version of The Phantom Of The Opera, Utterson in The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Reverend Johnny Burgemeister in The Senator Wore Pantyhose, along with roles in It's A Wonderful Life, Arsenic & Old Lace, and George & Gracie- A Love Story. Tony also did improv at The NY Comedy Club, and has worked with The Clare Rose Playhouse and Plaza Theatricals.
  • April is the other director/writer for DDC (the cuter one!), and is also one of the performers. She has a very diverse theatrical background, from playing Alice in Alice In Wonderland, to performing musical parts such as Adelaide in Guys & Dolls. April's also accomplished in children's theatre, has studied with Chicago City Limits improv, The Meisner technique of acting, and has taught acting classes for children. She is also a member of the National Association for Professional Women, and has recently been named a Woman of the Year for 2010.
  • Many of you may already know DROP DEAD COMEDY as a murder mystery dinner theatre group. While we still offer murder mystery comedies, now we also offer variety shows which consist of music, improvisation, skits, and games. We can also create a hilarious "This is Your life" skit for someone you are honoring at a party or function, which will keep everyone laughing. There are all sorts of outrageous characters our DROP DEAD COMEDY audiences are fondly familiar with, and you can hire any of those characters to come and liven up a party by mingling with your guests! What are you waiting for? Give us a call!

Shows where you get in on the act

Usually you go to a show to be entertained, but at some Long Island spots, you might end up being the entertainment. Whether it's being spellbound by a hypnotist or feeding lines to a comic, audience participation at these three shows is not only encouraged, but required. And don't be afraid to take along the kiddies since these shows are all good, squeaky-clean fun.

'Suzy's Killer Birthday Surprise'

Someone gets murdered, and everyone will die laughing at this interactive mystery dinner theater performed by the Drop Dead Comedy troupe at Sergio's in Massapequa. The plot: It's 5-year-old Suzy's birthday, and everyone in her wacky clan has forgotten. As family members try to pull together a last-minute party, a murder puts a damper on the celebration. Then the detective arrives and the audience becomes part of the comic scene investigation.

"We perform as we mingle through the tables," says Tony Walker, co-director of Drop Dead Comedy. "Even though there's a script, we're constantly going off the script and looking for something in the audience we can react to. For instance, if somebody's phone rings, we try and answer it and work it into the show."

Crack the case and you might win a cash prize. T-shirts also can be won during some of the creative games interspersed with the hilarious homicidal happenings.

INFO Aug. 26 at 7 p.m., Sergio's Restaurant, 5422 Merrick Rd., Massapequa, $49 a person, 516-541-6554, sergiositalianrestaurant.com

Mystery dinner theaters and getaways

August 24, 2009 By DANIEL BUBBEO  daniel.bubbeo@newsday.com

QUICK SUMMARY

Who done it? If you haven't got a clue where to find the best mystery dinner theaters or weekend getaways, or how to bring some home, sweet homicide to your next party, look no further.

Who done it? Who's come up with creative ways for the budding Sherlock Holmes or Miss Marple to play detective and, we suspect, make new friends, too? If you haven't got a clue where to find the best mystery dinner theaters or weekend getaways, or how to bring some home, sweet homicide to your next party, look no further.

Parties have themes like "A Redneck Wedding," where a couple gets hitched, then someone buys the farm. Scripts are tailored to include inside jokes about the guests, said Tony Walker, co-president of Drop Dead Comedy. "A murder happens, and it's all very comedic with some gunshots. Or there'll be someone taking a drink with a long, overdramatic choking death."

Drop Dead Comedy also hosts kids' parties, which are "more of a scavenger hunt, where they have to find clues," Walker says.
